Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies at SDU, established in May 1994, is an independent research institution of the University and is administratively affiliated to the School of Political Science and Public Administration(PSPA) of SDU.
By integrating the academic resources of the whole university, the Institute has gradually formed a large research team composed of full-time and part-time research fellows. The Institute's staff are mainly from the PSPA,Economics,Korean Studies,Law,Foreign Languages,Literature and Journalism. The Institute has invited a number of well-known experts and scholars from home and abroad, the high officials of the provincial government and its departments, and the CEOs of the SOCs as part-time researchers, honored senior fellows, and academic advisors. The Institute aims to become an open and international research platform.
The Institute has successfully carried out many academic activities for the past 15 years. It has hosted 12 international conferences, and has published a series of books titled "ASIA-PACIFIC Development Studies"(Vol.1, Vol.2, Vol.3, Vol.4, Vol.5) with more than 2,000,000 words. It has co-hosted many international conferences with Institute of Orientology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Social Science Research of Changwon National University, Centre for Northeast Asia Studies of Pusan National University, Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies of Waseda University, Japanese Institute of Japan-China Economic Development Studies, Japan Research Institute(ltd.). It has established academic exchange and cooperation relationships with more than 20 universities, research institutions, and government departments from home and abroad. It has maintained close contacts with more than 16 well-known universities, research institutions from 8 countries and regions.
Despite these cooperation, the Institute is looking forward to establishing much closer and broader cooperation with experts and scholars from home and abroad.
